Greg Hargrave – Executive Chairman

Experience

  • Greg brings extensive Entrepreneurial and Management experience, both in large Publicly Listed Environments, and also in highly successful Private Start-ups.
  • 2003-2010: SKILLED Group Chief Executive Officer for over 7 years; Australia’s Largest Diversified Industrial Services Company. As CEO he grew company revenues from circa AUD$654M to AUD$1.93B.
  • Greg has been Director of Larkfield Funds Management from 1997 and Chairman from 2001-2011. Larkfield Funds Management invests in a diverse range of assets including property and agricultural, listed and non-listed entities, as well as venture capital, private equity and hedge fund investments.
  • Greg was a Director and Co-founder of Direct Cash, Australia’s first Private ATM Network, which was successfully sold to CashCard. Greg is a former Council member of the Australian Industry Group, a Board Member of St Vincent’s Hospital Foundation and Chairman of the St Vincent’s Hospital Cancer Appeal.
Ben Silluzio – CEO & CIO

Experience

  • Ben has 20 years’ financial markets experience servicing hedge funds and ultra high net worth individuals.
  • Ben is primarily responsible for making the Fund’s investment decisions, and was the creator and architect of the Manager’s Q-Score process – a stock selection and risk management process which ranks listed companies based on fundamental improvements/deteriorations in each business.
  • Extensive global financial institution experience including:
  • 1996: Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA);
  • 1997: Colonial Institutional;
  • 2000: Credit Suisse First Boston (Vice President);
  • 2002: Ben founded the Qato Q-Score process, a fundamentally based bottom-up investment process;
  • 2003: Citi Group Smith Barney (Senior Vice President). Member of Century Council for Citi globally;
  • 2006: UBS Wealth Management AG (Director);
  • 2011: RBS Morgans’ Ultra High Net Worth division (Founding Managing Partner).
Brett Dawson – COO & Portfolio Manager

Experience

  • Brett has over 10 years financial industry experience in both buy-side (Institutional Funds Management, Hedge Fund of Funds) & sell-side (Private client Wealth Management) investing.
  • Brett has comprehensive experience including:
  • 2004: Warakirri Funds Management;
  • 2007: UBS Wealth Management AG; and
  • 2011: Co-founded the RBS Morgans’ Ultra High Net Worth Division.
  • Brett is primarily responsible for managing the Fund’s operation working closely with the CEO. Brett was the architect and creator of a proprietary top-down macroeconomic model which assesses multiple sectors of the real economy to identify improving/deteriorating economic conditions and turning points in the business cycle.
James Skerrett – Legal, Compliance, Risk, & Operations

Experience

  • James’ legal and compliance career has focused on the financial services sector – his Masters focussed on debt capital markets and international banking and finance. He brings diverse commercial legal and corporate advisory experiences through his time at Herbert Smith Freehills and Orion Corporate Advisory Services. He also has operational and compliance experience at law firm Plexus.
  • James’ experience in legal and commercial business is broad, including advising Citic (China) on the AUD$6b Macarthur Coal takeover.
Dean Fergie – Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee

Experience

  • Dean will join Qato Capital’s Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee.
  • Dean has over 20 years experience in the funds management industry covering all major asset classes. Dean has lectured for the Securities Institute of Australia and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He also sits on the Investment Committee of Canterbury Funds Management.
  • Before setting up Cyan Investment Management, Dean spent 11 years as the founder and Director at OC Funds Ltd (previously Opis Capital Ltd), a boutique Australian equities fund manager. Throughout his tenure as Executive Director, Investments, OC’s three funds generated returns to investors averaging in excess of 4% p.a. above their respective benchmarks. OC’s funds obtained strong ratings from the major investment consultants such as Lonsec, Mercers, Standard and Poors, Zenith and Van Eyk. At its peak, the company managed three funds totalling $350m for more than 1000 individual clients.
  • Prior to Opis Capital Limited, Dean was a Portfolio Manager for National Australia Asset Management’s Smaller Companies Fund which had an average fund size of $300m.
Andrew Bennetts – Commercial Manager & Secretary of the Advisory Board

  • Andrew has over 10 years financial services and management consulting experience working across ANZ, AXA Australia and AT Kearney.
  • Andrew is primarily responsible for the business management of the Qato Capital entity.

Hon. Richard Alston AO – Chairman

Experience

  • Board Member of London based hedge fund, CQS LLP (USD$14b FUM) and a director of CQS Investment Management (Australia) Pty Ltd.
  • Director of Nanuk Asset Management Pty Ltd and Balmoral Gardens Pty Ltd.
  • From March 1996 to October 2003 he was Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts in the Australian Federal Parliament. He was on the front bench of Coalition parties for nearly 15 years.
  • From 2005-08 he was Australian High Commissioner (Ambassador) to the United Kingdom.
  • National board member of CPA Australia and Chairman of the advisory board of an international alliance between Monash (Australia) and Warwick (UK) Universities.
  • Chairman of AMEX Ltd, a listed Australian resources company and Chairman of the China based Waratah Group.
  • Since 2004 he has been an Adjunct Professor in the Business School at Bond University, Queensland. His previous positions have included non-executive chairman and director of a number of listed public and private companies both in Australia and overseas, as well as a member of the Victorian executive of the Australia China Business Council.
Sheikh Jamaluddin bin Sheikh Mohamed OBE – Vice Chairman

Experience

  • Initially worked with the Brunei Ministry of Finance (USD$40b FUM) in the Economic Planning Unit in 1982 as the System Analyst in the Computer Section. Completed Degree in Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Teesside in England.
  • Subsequently joined the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) and set up the BIA London Office in 1983-1994 at the City of London. His work centred around the financial markets of London and New York dealing in Treasury Bills, Stocks and Bond Markets in London and USA.
  • Completed MBA at Imperial College, London 1994.
  • 1995 set up the BIA Office in Brussels.
  • 1998 was CEO of Royal Brunei National Airlines for two years.

Established the Tourism Department in the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources in Brunei Darussalam, holding the position as Director of Tourism over a period of 16 years.

Ian M Jeffrey – Board Member

Experience

  • Ian’s experience includes over 22 years as a tax partner for PwC during which he provided advice in respect to a variety of taxes with a focus on the financial services industry.
  • Chairman of Qato Capital’s Audit, Risk & Compliance Committee
  • In addition to Ian’s very extensive tax experience, his background also includes experience in PwC audit division and acting as a corporate solicitor for a major bank.
  • He currently provides consulting services to UHNWs, SMSFs and fund managers.
Luke McConnell – Board Member

Experience

  • Luke has 20 years experience in the financial services sector. He is currently the Financial Controller for ANZ’s Australian Institutional Bank.
  • He was formerly the Chief Financial Officer for the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in the Nordic Region, based in Stockholm for 5 years. He worked with RBS for a total of 8 years holding a number of senior positions including: Global Head of Finance – Financial Institutions Group (London) and Global Head of Finance – Portfolio Management (London).

Prior to RBS, Luke performed a variety of finance and consulting roles with: American Express, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Bank, AerCap and Accenture.

Adrian Giles – Board Member

Experience

  • Adrian is a highly successful entrepreneur and investor with experience in global start-ups and technology.
  • In 1998 Adrian co-founded Hitwise which grew over 10 years to become one of the most recognized global internet measurement brands across the US, UK and Asia. Whilst positioning the company for a NASDAQ listing in early 2007 Hitwise was sold to Experian (LSE: EXPN) for US$240m in one of Australia’s most successful venture backed internet trade sales.
  • Adrian is also a director of ASX listed Adslot Group (ASX: ADJ) a company he co-founded, Adslot is an innovative internet market technology company with offices around the globe.
